Have you ever noticed that the time you find a really great old car often coincides with a lack of funds to purchase. Alas this is the situation I find myself in as I have spent surplus on a much needed storage barn. But forget the barn how about the car. It is a 51 Chevy 2 door and it looks nice and is completely driveable as-is. They have spent a fair amount of time on a fair to good amateur restoration. The bad news besides not having funds for it is the asking price. Won't say what it is to protect the innocent but if this car was a #1 professional restoration it would be high. After it sets for a long while mabye they will realize a price adjustment is in line and mabye I will have money then. There is always a chance.

They are everywhere as I have said before. Followed a 55 chevy into town the other day. Had a pristine stock body and paint that cost as much as some cars. It was nice,just what the owner wanted,some extra power under the hood,a noticeable lift to the rear a slight drop in the front. Yes it was nice mabye too nice. Would you be afraid to park it at Wal-Mart? I would prefer a driver friendly vehicle that may have some imperfections, character I would call it. Looking for the right car or mabye truck, it is out there waiting for me.

What if?

Most of us can think of a what if or two concerning old cars,so heres another one. Back in early 1963 my dad was looking to trade his 57 Ford wagon before the tin worm finished it off. We were looking at cars at a downtown Indianapolis lot where he had bought the 57. Being a car nut from birth I was trying to guide him to something cool. The salesman was talking up a leftover 62 that he would alll but give away. It was a tan 4 door and looked like a grandpa car to me. But on closer look I saw that it was a sleeper in that a 406 lurked under the hood. I had visions of learning to drive in a barn burner and cruising the hot spots on weekends with the sleeper. But it was not to be as father knows best and a new 63 wagon found its way to our home. But it had a 352 and it could-- well thats another story for later.

Cars in the area.

I have seen cars today. First a 1946 Chevrolet 2 dr sedan in original but non-running condition. Next up a 1951 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pick-up with the optional sunvisor, that is said to run. Noted under the hood was mice nesting in quanities that say it has not ran for a decade or so. Saw a rat rod made out of a 36 Chevy pick-up that had the original stovebolt 6 for power. It set so low that you could really understand seat of the pants driving. All these were for sale. Keep on looking.

I am in need of an old car fix. Have been in Indiana for 2 months and seen little in the way of old tin. I understand why people dont take out the old cars in the winter but I still miss them. Lots of museums here but I prefer originals from the garage or barn. Think I will head south soon and see what I can find.

No time for old cars.

Sometimes there is just no time for your favorite things. Such as old cars and related things. Recently cleaned out the shed and backyard of steel items with the idea of taking them to the scrapyard to sell. The price aroud here is at 85-90 cents a pound so it does add up fast. Took my load of miscellaneous to a local site and made my fortune.
While there I noticed in this yard a 1961 Valiant 4 door in what could be called rough condition. A real #6 vehicle that would require a ambitious restoration. The only thing it had on its side was its total completeness. Right down to the owners manual in the glove box. A lot of donor material was there but so was a lot of rust and mice nesting. This could be someones dream and it is waiting for your arrival. Call if you want to know where it is.

55 Ghost

I saw it again but could not follow it again. The 55 Plymouth I saw in June of 09 came by again yesterday. Same old couple in it,same barn find condition. It quietly went by as I was working in the yard. I was only a few feet from the road so I got a better look. Saw some rust at left lower front fender but the rest looked solid. It ran very quietly or mabye it was a ghost and they make no noise.
